Anchor Bay Crossing Guard Hit by Car Treated for Ankle Injury

The 48-year-old Chesterfield Township woman was expected to undergo surgery on her ankle after the Thursday accident.

An Anchor Bay Schools crossing guard suffered ankle injuries after she was struck Thursday morning by a car, said Friday.

The 48-year-old Chesterfield Township woman was hit around 8:50 a.m. by a Saturn car in front of on 24 Mile Road. The 75-year-old driver was turning out of the Forest Glade subdivision before the incident, Detective Sgt. Deron Myers said.

The driver told police she saw the guard but thought she was walking out of the street.

“Apparently, she perceived the situation incorrectly and the crossing guard was still out there," Myers said.

Police issued the driver a ticket for failure to use due care and caution, which is a civil infraction, he said.

The crossing guard was taken to Mount Clemens Regional Medical Center, where she was treated for a fractured ankle. The injury was expected to require surgery. No children were in the street at the time of the accident, police said.
