Chesterfield Boy Suffers Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound

Chesterfield Township police said Sunday the boy accidentally shot himself in the leg Saturday night.

A 14-year-old Chesterfield Township boy accidentally shot himself Saturday night while playing with a family gun, said Sunday.

At approximately 9:40 p.m. police received word about the shooting in the township.

"A kid reported that he was shot and they took him to the hospital and removed a bullet," township police Chief Bruce Smith said.

After saying someone shot him, the child later told police he was playing with his grandfather's gun before suffering a gunshot would to the leg, Smith said.

"He confessed to a detective that he actually shot himself," he said.

The boy underwent surgery to remove the bullet. Police said the investigation is ongoing and there's no determination if any charges would stem from this incident at this time.
