Chesterfield Man Arraigned on Breaking and Entering Charges

A 21-year-old Chesterfield Township man was arraigned Thursday in New Baltimore on charges he early Tuesday morning.

Joshua Chilcott faces three breaking-and-entering charges for robbing on 23 Mile Road and for two other break-ins in Chesterfield Township. Each felony charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment upon conviction. He was placed on a $30,000 bond.

Chief Tim Wiley credited the media Thursday for alerting the public Tuesday afternoon to surveillance images of the restaurant robber in effort to identify him. Within 24 hours, police received citizen tips that led investigators to the suspect. New Baltimore and conducted a search Wednesday of a township home, placing him under arrest.

In Chesterfield, Chilcott broke into the in the early Monday morning hours, taking a television and pop can returnables, township Detective Sgt. Deron Myers said Friday.

"He caused a ton of damage in search of cash," Myers said.

The second Chesterfield break-in took place 20 minutes after The Country Inn robbery early Tuesday. At that time, Chilcott smashed out the front glass at , but was scared off by an alarm before he found anything to swipe inside the business, he said.

New Baltimore and Chesterfield police say the suspect was motivated by drug money.

"He is a self-described heroin addict," Myers said.

Chilcott is also suspected of an attempted breaking and entering in St. Clair County, police said.
