Chesterfield Motorcyclist in Critical Condition Following Crash

Chesterfield Township police said the 24-year-old man was struck by a car Thursday evening.

A 24-year-old Chesterfield Township man is in critical condition following a Thursday evening crash on Jefferson Avenue, police said Friday.

Witnesses reported to police that the motorcyclist was heading south on Jefferson around 5:30 p.m. when a 59-year-old Chesterfield woman turned left in front of him from northbound Jefferson onto Au Sable. The man lost control and fell off his bike, sliding southbound on Jefferson, according to police.

"Accident investigators at the scene believe the man struck his helmet on the wheel of the woman’s vehicle as he slid on the pavement past her," Detective Sgt. Deron Myers said.

The man was taken to McLaren Macomb Hospital in Mount Clemens. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the accident that remains under investigation, Myers said.
