Chesterfield Township Police Arrest Suspect in Kohl's Robbery

After a search for the robbery suspect, police said Wednesday they expect him to be arraigned soon.

Chesterfield Township police said Wednesday morning they have arrested an individual in connection to the Thursday robbery at the Kohl's parking lot.

They are presenting their case to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office and are expecting to release more details following an anticipated arraignment. Check back with Patch for more information as it becomes available.

The arrest stems from an incident at the Kohl's parking lot at Gratiot and 23 Mile Road in which a 55-year-old shopper was robbed and threatened. Around 12:25 p.m., a man approached her from behind as she placed her merchandise in her trunk, grabbed her by the arm and threatened to kill her if she didn't hand over her purse. He told her that he would "shoot her if she screamed," according to township Detective Sgt. Deron Myers.

He did not show a weapon, but alluded to one by keeping his hand in his pocket. The woman gave him her purse and fled on foot toward the old Kmart store that now houses Spirit Halloween. Patrol officers and detectives immediately covered the area to search for the suspect, but he was not found that day, Myers said.

Later that evening, the victim reported to police that another man and a woman came to her house to return her purse. They told her they found it abandoned and brought it back to the address on her identification. They did not offer personal information while returning the purse, but detectives previously said they wanted to speak to them in case they could provide information that would assist their investigation.
