Chesterfield Township Police Investigate Jewelry Store Robbery

Chesterfield Township Police are asking for the public's help after someone took a safe containing more than $100,000 in inventory from Marquis Jewelers on 23 Mile Road.

are investigating a burglary at in which a safe containing more than $100,000 in inventory was stolen.

The robbery at the store located at 34748 23 Mile Road in Chesterfield Township occurred sometime during the early morning hours of Monday, April 23, according to a police report.

The owner of Marquis Jewelers arrived at his store at approximately 8:30 a.m. after receiving a notification that his alarm system had a power failure.

Upon arrival, the owner discovered his business had been broken into and the safe—which was approximately 6 feet tall and weighed 2,700 pounds—had been stolen.

Subsequently, Chesterfield Township police discovered that someone had disabled the phone lines to the jewelry store and the connected businesses in the shopping center shortly after 12 a.m. Monday morning.

Police said that the suspects then forced open the rear steel door of the vacant business next to Marquis Jewelers to enter the store.

Once inside Marquis Jewelers, police said the suspects were able to destroy the alarm system and began knocking down interior walls to clear a path to get the safe out to the rear alley behind the store.

At approximately 3:45 a.m. a large white truck was spotted on surveillance video driving to the rear of the building. The safe was then taken away in the truck.
