Crime Blotter: Gas Station Run Leaves Driver Without Car

Man walks into a pole, gets into stranger's car

A man left his keys inside his Ford Fusion and parked it in front of late night Nov. 20 while he went inside momentarily. But, when he returned, his car was gone, said.

The car owner told police that an unidentified man was near his car as he walked inside the gas station. He suspected that man was either drunk or on drugs because he "walked into one of the building poles," according to a police report.

spotted the car soon after and attempted to pull over the suspect. They followed him south of Metro Parkway, where he then led them on a foot chase, police said.

He was placed under arrest for multiple charges, including receiving and concealing a motor vehicle, fleeing and eluding police, resisting and obstructing police and driving while license suspended.

Alleged drunken driver falls asleep before crash

A man is accused of driving under the influence, running a red light, crossing over five lanes of traffic and eventually crashing into a sign—all while asleep, according to a police report.

Around midnight Nov. 27, an unidentified driver in a 2009 GMC Acadia ran a red light in the 23 Mile and Jefferson area. The SUV then crossed over into oncoming traffic lanes, struck a curb and then a dental office sign and mailbox, New Baltimore police said.

No one was injured during the incident. The driver was placed under arrest for operating under the influence of alcohol after he blew a 0.22% on a Breathalyzer test and failed verbal and physical field sobriety tests, police said.

Property saved from fire, stolen from shed

A 50-inch plasma television and two, five-gallon gas cans were reported stolen Nov. 11 from a shed in the 23 Mile Road and Gratiot area, Chesterfield Township police said. 

The items were likely taken from around 10 p.m. Nov. 10 to 11 a.m. Nov. 11 and were valued at approximately $1,050. The thief cut open the hinge on the shed lock. The television had been placed there after a in late August, according to a police report.

No suspects were known at the time.
