Crime Brief: Man Suspected of Eating Marijuana During Traffic Stop

The following information was supplied by New Baltimore police. Arrest information does not indicate convictions.

Man claims no pot, but clothes and phone suggest otherwise

An 18-year-old New Baltimore man was to be charged this month with one count of possession of marijuana after police found the drug inside his car during a traffic stop in the Jefferson and 23 Mile area.

pulled over the 1993 Ford SUV around 9:30 p.m. June 1 because it was traveling 48 mph in a 35 mph zone. The officer noticed the driver shifting around the vehicle and opening and closing the center console, according to a report.

When speaking to the driver, the officer saw a green leafy material on his clothes, suggesting the man had eaten marijuana and potentially tried spreading it around the vehicle to avoid detection, the report stated.

He told police he did not have marijuana in possession and did not smoke it. But K-9 officer Kuffs sniffed out suspected pot inside a pill bottle in the vehicle's console while text messages on the driver's phone showed recent communication about buying pot, the report stated.

The driver was released to his mother while a warrant for marijuana possession was pending. He was also given a speeding ticket.

LOl.. how much does it weigh when it comes out the other end?
I'm sure he'll get a misdemeanor record and probably some modest fine or community service out of this. And that's as it should be. Perhaps some court ordered educational classes or something.. ordering someone into re-hab when they don't want it or feel they need it wouldn't do much good though. Neither would it do anyone any good to throw him in jail. I still remember the first time i got caught driving with weed in the car.. the Judge made me write a book report on cannabis from some reader's digest article. But, then again i remember back when the police used to wind test weed when they found it too. (dump it out). Things aren't like that anymore Some people just don't realize that the dogs can smell the REAL stuff a mile away. I think it is funny that he was so scared of being busted that he decided to taste test it. But it is a good thing he didn't try doing that with spice/k2 or a pack of ciggerettes... you'd of been taken him to the morgue instead of jail.
