Crime Brief: Thieves Rack Up $400 Gas Station Bill

The following information was supplied by police. Any arrest information does not indicate convictions.

A Chesterfield Township woman learned from her credit union that someone charged $400 to her debit card at two gas stations in Detroit, she told

When she discovered the thefts for undisclosed purchases at Sunoco and Mobil stations in late June, the resident cancelled the card. Upon closer review of her finances, she learned that hundreds of dollars were charged to her account to buy computers in Minnesota, according to a police report.

The woman and her husband told detectives they never lost their debit cards, but their financial institution said they might have been victims of card cloning, the report said.
