Did Thief Want to Engage in Safe Sex? Not Necessarily, Chesterfield Township Police Say

A man who stole about $300 worth of condoms from a pharmacy likely planned to resell them.

From the unusual crimes files comes this report of a crime that, it turns out, isn’t all that unusual: Stealing condoms and re-selling them.

“This isn’t unusual,” Chesterfield Township Detective Sgt. Deron Myers told the Macomb Daily after a suspect reportedly stole about $300 worth of condoms from a CVS Pharmacy at Gratoit Avenue and 21 Mile Road earlier this month.

“This guy will take the condoms to another store or gasoline station and sell them,” Myers said.

He made his comments after a New Year’s Day incident in which a white male believed to be in his mid-20s walked into the store, went to the condom counter and began stealing boxes of condoms. A store employee asked him to stop and he fled in a back Chevrolet Malibu.

Thefts like that increase the cost honest consumers pay, Myers said.
