Boater Crashes on Lake St. Clair, Arrested for Operating While Impaired

Information in this crime blotter was supplied by the Macomb County Sheriff's Office. Where arrests apply, they do not indicate convictions.

A 31-year-old Fair Haven man was arrested last Sunday after crashing his boat on Lake St. Clair while highly intoxicated, police said.

Macomb County Sheriff Marine Division deputies were called to the Mac-Ray Harbor Marina on North River Road in Harrison Township. Several witnesses directed them to a 17-foot Bayliner. They told police the boat operator had trouble controlling the vessel, struck a seawall and then throttled up his boat to make a turn. In the process, he hit a boat and a dingy docked behind a home on Evergreen Drive, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said they met the operator, who had an empty bottle of Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey on the dashboard, and administered a Breathalyzer test. The test result was .36 percent--well above the legal .08 limit for driving.

The man was taken to McLaren Macomb Hospital for a blood draw due to his high blood-alcohol level. His boat was towed and impounded. He was then lodged in Macomb County Jail on a charge of operating a watercraft while intoxicated, police said.
