Fifty to 70 Residents Displaced From Chesterfield Fire

Twenty-five units were destroyed in a Tuesday evening fire at Georgetown Apartments, fire officials said Wednesday.

A fire that ravaged a Chesterfield Township apartment building Tuesday evening left between 50 to 70 people displaced, fire officials said Wednesday.

The tenants lived in 25 units that were destroyed by the blaze in on 23 Mile near Gratiot. About 30 of those residents were taken to the Chesterfield Township Senior Center later that night for temporary shelter. The American Red Cross is assisting people who lost their homes, said township Fire Capt. Walter Wilhelm.

No cause of the fire has been determined at this time. No one was injured in the blaze that caused an estimated $1 million in damages. To read Patch's original story on the incident, .
