IN VIDEO: New Baltimore Celebrates Police Station Opening

New Baltimore police were joined by representatives from the state, county and the community Monday for the grand opening of the new police station on Green St.

celebrated the grand opening Monday evening of the new, larger and more secure station on Green St.

Amid Anchor Bay Marching Band music and songs from the New Baltimore Interfaith Choir, the crowd cheered the ribbon-cutting ceremony and then toured the building.

New Baltimore Police hailed the opening as a team effort with help from volunteers and public officials. Wiley also acknowledged his family for their support and his Chief of Staff Lt. Fred Riebel for 25 years of service. 

Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel, State Rep. Andrea LaFontaine, Macomb County Commission Chairwoman Kathy Vosburg of Chesterfield, New Baltimore Mayor Larry Smith, New Baltimore City Council, 42-2 District Court Judge William Hackel (who is the brother of the county executive), a representative from Congresswoman Candice Miller's office and others showed up for the celebration organized and hosted by the . The city was heralded by many for saving money over the years to open a new police station while so many other municipalities are struggling financially.

Scores of attendees were bused from nearby parking lots to watch the event and then tour the new station complete with state-of-the security, a municipal meeting room, holding cells and garages. The old station on Front Street overlooking Anchor Bay is vacant.
