Man Dies Following Snowmobile Accident in Chesterfield

A 32-year-old township man suffered fatal injuries in a snowmobile crash in the early morning hours Tuesday, police said.

A 32-year-old man died shortly after his snowmobile crashed around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday in Chesterfield Township, said that afternoon.

The man, whose name has not been released, was riding a snowmobile on a large grassy parcel off 23 Mile and D.W. Seaton. His friend, who was inside the house on the property where they both lived, discovered him after growing concerned when the snowmobile noise stopped for a few minutes, township Detective Sgt. Deron Myers said.

The 33-year-old friend found the injured man near the flipped-over snowmobile and brought him back toward the house. The man lost consciousness and was taken to Mount Clemens Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, Myers said.

"It's possible it hit an elevated area" and flipped over, Myers said.

The man who died in the crash had been trying to repair it for the past few days, his friend told police.

During a background check on the vehicle, police said it came up as stolen.

"Our detectives are also investigating the possibility that the snowmobile itself had been stolen from New Baltimore last winter," Myers said.
