New Baltimore Native Killed, Another in Critical Condition After Crash on Groesbeck Near 15 Mile

Police say 46-year-old Susan Jean Kozak of Clinton Township died from injuries sustained in the Wednesday evening accident. A second individual remains hospitalized in critical condition.

A 46-year-old Clinton Township woman was killed Wednesday after her pickup truck collided head-on with another vehicle on Groesbeck Highway north of 15 Mile Road, police say.

Police have identified the victim as Susan Jean Kozak.

Investigators say Kozak was driving southbound on Groesbeck when her pickup truck crossed into the left turn lane and collided head-on with another pickup traveling northbound. Both vehicles spun out and hit two other vehicles traveling north and south, according to the police report.

The four-car accident, which took place at approximately 5:35 p.m., shut down both sides of Groesbeck for several hours.

Kozak was transported to McLaren Macomb Hospital where she died from her injuries. The driver of the second pickup remains hospitalized in critical condition, according to police. A third driver was treated at the hospital and released, while the fourth left the scene of the accident without injury.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident. It is unknown if alcohol and or drugs were a factor in the crash at this time.

No arrests have been made.

Kozak attended Anchor Bay High School and grew up in New Baltimore before moving to Clinton Township in the mid-1980s, according to a report in The Macomb Daily.
