New Baltimore Stolen Car, Trailer Recovered in Detroit

Police say the 30-foot trailer and 1930s classic car have been found after media reported the thefts that took place last week at Richard's Auto Parts on 23 Mile.

have been recovered in southwest Detroit, but investigators are still searching for persons of interest in the case, police said Friday.

After alerting the media Monday to the Thursday night thefts at Richard's Auto Parts on 23 Mile in New Baltimore, police said the Macomb Auto Thefts Squad, also known as MATS, got information Wednesday the trailer was on the 2300 block of Wendell Street in Detroit. When found, the trailer did not contain the 1937 Fiat Topolino that was inside it at the time of the theft, according to .

On Thursday, New Baltimore detectives and MATS officers responded to southwest Detroit to speak to residents in the area where the trailer was found. And, at approximately 8 p.m. that night, someone contacted with a tip. That person reported seeing media reports of the stolen vehicle and said the Fiat was in the 6000 block of Jefferson Avenue in Detroit, police said.

The owner retrieved the car from there.

Police continue to search for a couple seen on surveillance images the night of the robbery at a nearby gas station. Those individuals—a man and woman believed to be 25-35 years old—are believed to be driving a dark-colored 2000-06 Ford F-250 or F-350 with chrome running boards and a Tonneau cover over the bed, New Baltimore Police Chief Tim Wiley said.

The pair, considered "persons of interest" are being sought for questioning in the robbery, Wiley said.
