Pizza Delivery Driver Robbed at Gunpoint in Chesterfield Township

Chesterfield Township police said they are searching for an armed robber.

Chesterfield Township police said Friday they are looking for an armed robber who held up a pizza delivery man Thursday night in the Aspen Creek apartment complex.

The suspect--described as a black man in his mid-20s, about 6 feet tall, 200 pounds with a stocky build--wore a red baseball hat, red T-shirt, blue jeans and carried a silver semi-automatic handgun, according to Detective Sgt. Deron Myers.

At approximately 10:20 p.m. Thursday, township police responded to Hungry Howie's on 23 Mile after a delivery driver called 911 to report the crime on Central Village in the apartment complex, also off 23 Mile, Myers said.

The driver told police he went to deliver a pizza to an address a caller left for an order. When he arrived, a woman answered the door and said she had not ordered a pizza. The driver then called back the phone number from the order as he started to leave, Myers said.

A man answered the phone, told the driver to meet him in the parking lot and robbed him of an undisclosed amount of cash. The thief ordered the victim to drive off, he said.

This incident follows a separate crime involving a pizza delivery person in Chesterfield Township. In August 2012, a female pizza delivery driver was grabbed by a man allegedly trying to assault her as she went on a run at the Chesterfield Motor Inn.

Anyone with information is asked to call Chesterfield Police Department at 586-949-2322 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
