Police Blotter: Used Needles Litter Smart Bus Stop, 800 Number Bills for Porn

Business reports used needles, condoms left around Smart Bus stop

On April 14, at approximately 1:24 p.m., Chesterfield Police responded to a business in the area of Gratiot Avenue for a health and safety complaint regarding the nearby Smart Bus stop.

The business owner told police the bus stop has caused a series of problems for his business, employees and customers. The owner said he finds used condoms and needles left on his business' lawn and around the bus stop daily and has recently had to lock his front door and lobby area beacuse of non-customers constantly entering his business wanting to use his restroom or beg for change, according to the police report.

The business' lawn service has also told the owner they will not cut the lawn in the future if the problem continues, due to safety and bio hazard concerns, such as a used needle being launched into the air by mower blades.

The owner said he has contacted Smart management to request daily cleanups of the area, and have the bus stop eventually removed, but has been unsuccessful, according to the police report.

Drunken driver arrested in Donner Meadows

On April 15, at approximately 6:21 a.m., Chesterfield police arrested a man in Donner Meadows for operating while intoxicated, second offense.

Police report the man was unable to stand and thus could not ocmplete sobriety tests. A preliminary breath test showed the man's blood alcohol content to be .26. The suspect was arrested and taken to the police station.

Prescription meds stolen from unlocked vehicle

On April 15, at approximately 1:43 p.m., a Chesterfield resident reported three bottles of prescription medication were stolen from his unlocked vehicle, which was parked in his driveway overnight.

The theft is believed to have occurred sometime between noon April 14 and 10 a.m. April 15., according to the police report.

Unknown '800' number falsely bills for Internet porn

On April 13, at approximately 2:13 p.m., a Chesterfield resident reported he was being harassed by unknown individuals to pay an outstanding balance for Internet porn services he did not order, according to police.

For more than two weeks, the man said he had been receiving four to five text messages and phone calls per day from an unknown 800 number. Individuals at the number would not provide any information other than the name attached to the account and the registered cell phone number, which owed $39.95 for Internet porn services, according to the police report. 

The man told the callers he did not open the account in question and was not the individual on file. He then asked them to cancel his account, which they refused to do, saying he would continue to be billed $39.95 per month until paid in full, according to the police report. 

Rear glass broken on parked pickup

On April 15, at approximately 2:52 p.m., a Leshan Drive resident reported the rear glass of his pickup had been broken while it was parking in his driveway.

The breakage is believed to have been caused by a small object, or possibly a BB, that hit the glass sometime between midnight and 2:30 p.m. April 15.

There are no suspects. The object that caused the breakage was not found, according to the police report.

Henry Ford Macomb reports missing signs

On April 13, at approximately 1 p.m., a security guard at Henry Ford Macomb, 30795 23 Mile Road, reported a handicap parking sign and patient parking only sign had been removed from the parking lot overnight, according to police. 

There are no suspects, witnesses or surveillance video at this time.

Vehicle abandoned on Overlook Trail

On April 13, at approximately 2:02 p.m., Chesterfield Police received an anonymous report of what appeared to be an abandoned vehicle parked on Overlook Trail. In speaking with a neighbor, police determined that the van had not been moved in more than a month.

Further investigation revealed the license plate had expired in February 2012. Through the plate, police were able to trace the van to an individual in Macomb Township. The vehicle was set to be towed on April 15 after 2:02 p.m.
