Police: Strangers Who Approached Boy Were Joking

Chesterfield Township police say a stranger-danger incident did not prove to have serious intent.

Two men who approached a 12-year-old boy in the 24 Mile Road and Sass area last month and asked him to were joking around, said Monday.

The June 13 incident, which sparked concern among area parents, took place in the parking lot. A boy riding his bike reported that two men asked him to get inside their work van to look for a dog. The boy ignored the men and rode his bike to his friends in back of the school.

An investigation into the incident led police to a local, undisclosed roofing company. After interviewing several employees who had access to the van that day, detectives deemed the matter "horseplay."

"We're confident that we identified the company that the van belonged to," Detective Sgt. Deron Myers said. "We don't feel that there was any criminal intent."

Further details about the investigation were not released.
