Rare Classic Car, Trailer Stolen from New Baltimore Auto Parts Store

A 1937 European car and a 30-foot double axle enclosed trailer were snatched around 10:50 p.m. Thursday from a New Baltimore auto parts business on 23 Mile Road, said Monday.

Investigators are seeking two "persons of interest" in the case for questioning because they were in the area around the time of the theft at , New Baltimore Police Chief Tim Wiley said.

Those individuals—a man and woman believed to be 25-35 years old—were seen on surveillance images at the next to the auto parts business. They are believed to be driving a dark-colored 2000-06 Ford F-250 or F-350 with chrome running boards and a Tonneau cover over the bed, Wiley said.

The trailer is worth about $10,000 and the purple and silver 1937 Fiat Topolino inside it is valued at about $5,000. The trailer was parked in a storage lot behind the building at the 35000 block of 23 Mile, he said.

“It was on the property and obviously there was some amount of accessibility that made it easier for someone to take," he said.

Police have not determined it to be an inside job, but they have questioned the auto parts owner about past workers, including anyone who may have been recently terminated and may have had knowledge of the vehicles, the chief said of the early stages in the investigation.
