Snowed-In Cars in Chesterfield May Be Towed

Car owners will have 48-hour warning once their vehicles are tagged by police to hit the road.

have a message to car owners who leave their vehicles snowed-in on subdivision and main streets: Dig out or pay up.

Chief Bruce Smith said Tuesday night that officers will start tagging cars that are obstructing portions of streets that snowplows need to reach. Once a car has an orange tag, the owner has 48 hours to move the car. If that is not done, it will be towed.

"If they get towed, they'll have to pay the impound fee and the towing," Smith said.

About a dozen residents have complained to police about idle cars following the last snowfall. The new enforcement will mean safer streets for the public, he said.
