UPDATE: Spider-Man Bandit Arrested

Intended theft victims apparently don't suffer from arachnophobia. When they protested, a man wearing a Spider-Man mask who allegedly demanded their X-Box One game skittered away.

A 20-year-old Clinton Township man who disguised himself by wearing a Spider-Man mask and allegedly tried to steal an Xbox One game system from two Macomb Township siblings outside a Chesterfield retail store early Friday morning has been arrested.

The man’s name has not yet been released, the Detroit Free Press reports.

A man wearing a Spider-Man mask allegedly was the antithesis of a superhero early Friday morning.

Chesterfield Township police saying a man wearing a zip-up Spider Man mask tried to steal an X-Box One game system two Macomb Township women had just purchased from the Chesterfield Township Meijer store on 23 Mile near Gratiot, the Detroit Free Press reports.

“Give me your game,” the masked man reportedly demanded.

The sisters reportedly wondered if they were the butt of a Spider-Man prank. They had seen him loitering near an exit when the left the store about 12:30 a.m., and reportedly asked if he was serious.

Upon questioning, the Spider-Man imposter reportedly shoved his hands in his pockets, turned tail and ran to the south end of the parking lot to a car, where he was last seen heading east on 23 Mile.

The X-Box One game system was released today and police believe that would-be bandit was there specifically to get the game. The suspect is described as a black man with light skin in his early 20s, slim and about 6-feet tall. Witnesses said they could see he was wearing glasses under the Spider-Man mask. Anyone with information is asked to call township police at (586) 949-2322 or Crime Stoppers at 800-SPEAK-UP.
