Crash Debris Consumes Half Block of Jefferson

One person suffered minor injuries in the two-vehicle accident around 6 p.m. in Chesterfield Township.

A Sunday evening accident involving two vehicles required considerable clean up on Jefferson Avenue and sent one person to the hospital, according to Chesterfield Township fire officials.

Around 6 p.m., a Ford Escort traveling on Jefferson near Mallard Drive swerved into oncoming traffic, striking a van. Authorities suspect the Escort driver was under the influence of alcohol, township Fire Capt. Doug Calvert said.

The van driver was taken to MacLaren Macomb Hospital in Mount Clemens for what are believed to be minor injuries. The other driver was unharmed, Calvert said.

Debris from the crash stretched about a half-block on Jefferson and required crews to section off areas while clearing the road, he said.
