Two New Baltimore men arrested in connection with an intentional fire at Poncho's Mexican Restaurant were arraigned Thursday on multiple criminal charges in 42-2 District Court.
Joseph Gora, 28, was charged with third-degree criminal arson, a 10-year felony; breaking and entering, also a 10-year felony; and concealing and receiving stolen property, a one-year misdemeanor, according to New Baltimore police.
Brian Kanikowski, 33, was charged with breaking and entering a building with intent, a 10-year felony; accessory after the fact to a felony; a 5-year felony; and the misdemeanor concealing and receiving stolen property, police said.
Gora's bond was set for $100,000 while Kanikowski's is $75,000.
The pair was taken into custody Wednesday evening in New Baltimore following an extensive investigation into the Sunday morning fire at the popular eatery, Police Chief Tim Wiley said.
"Their connection to the restaurant at this point is strictly a criminal matter," Wiley said.
It was not specifically clear why the restaurant was targeted in the fire that caused severe damage, but police said that several undisclosed items were taken.
Authorities said the investigation has now been turned over to the restaurant's insurance company to determine the estimated amount of damages.
