Area Leaders to Join March of Dimes Walk

Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel will serve as honorary chair for the upcoming March of Dimes, Walk for Babies at Metro Beach in Harrison Township, according to the county.

Hackel joins leaders, from Detroit and Oakland and Wayne counties, and thousands of participants throughout the country on April 30-May 1. Proceeds from the fundraiser benefit initiatives to help promote healthy pregnancies and research initiatives pertaining to premature births.

  • On April 30, Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano is to serve as honorary chair at Hines Park.
  • On May 1, Detroit Mayor Dave Bing is to serve as honorary chair at Hart Plaza.
  • On May 1, Hackel is to serve as honorary chair at Metro Beach.
  • On May 1, Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson is to serve as honorary chair at Troy Civic Center.

The March of Dimes, Walk for Babies has raised $2 billion since 1970. This spring, more than 7 million participants are expected to walk in 900 communities across the country, according to the nonprofit.
