Rizzo Services Will Not Collect Customer Fees on Chesterfield Tax Bills

The Chesterfield Board of Trustees also approved new options for waste removal services

After discussing new options provided by Rizzo Services, Chesterfield Township officials turned down a proposal by the waste-collection company to charge customers for garbage and recycling pick up on their taxes rather than billing them directly.

Under the rejected proposal, the company would receive the money from the tax bill and then reimburse the township $50,000 a year.

"I really hate turning down money," township Clerk Janice Uglis said Monday during the Board of Trustees meeting. "It's extra money we could have used for two years."

Chuck Rizzo Jr., president of Rizzo Services, explained to the board about a new plan to offer discounts to customers who paid their bills early. The plan would give costumers who paid for a year of service one of the 12 months free. After confusion about how this would be work on customers' tax bills, Supervisor Michael Lovelock motioned to deny the contract.

Uglis said, "I really wanted to listen to more about it."

The board also turned down a request to raise the bond of Rizzo Services by a 5 to 2 vote. In addition, Rizzo Services was approved by the board to sell an optional, new recycling bin to costumers.

The 65-gallon wheeled cart, much like yard waste bins used in suburbs, would provide costumers with a bigger vessel to store recyclable material until it is collected. The price for one of these bins would be $55.
