Chesterfield Clerk Earns Municipal Certification

Jan Uglis became a Certified Municipal Clerk earlier this summer.

Chesterfield Township Clerk Jan Uglis accomplished a longtime goal this summer when she became a Certified Municipal Clerk.

Her three-year studies, along with credits for real-life experience, led to the title from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks in California.

"I'm very proud of myself, I really am," Uglis, 65, said. "It was something that I really wanted to do."

She credits the township board and her staff for their support while she worked tirelessly on her certification that involved classes in Frankenmuth and Mount Pleasant. And, she says the merit is a plus for the community.

"It's good for the township to have a clerk that's C.M.C," she said.

Uglis, who is running for re-election, served as a trustee from 1984-88 and as clerk from 1992-96 before this term.

She also noted Treasurer Linda Hartman became a Michigan Certified Professional Treasurer last year. Hartman said Tuesday that she is currently working on advance studies.
