Chesterfield Honors Sergeant as 'Police Officer of the Year'

Township police Sgt. Jim O'Connor has been named the 2012 Police Officer of the Year in Chesterfield.

Chesterfield Township's Police Officer of the Year is department veteran Sgt. Jim O'Connor.

O'Connor was given the honor after a co-worker nomination and selection from a committee. He has contributed to numerous 2011 department projects, including the building security, server-and-radio room remodeling, exterior painting and dispatch center remodeling projects, according to Police Chief Bruce Smith.

Those initiatives included grant application and management for $382,000. O'Connor also reorganized police record archives and completed the final steps in a patrol fleet management program, Smith said.

He joined the department in 1993 and was promoted to sergeant in 2000.
