Chesterfield's Waterside Marketplace to Gain Store

Retailer Five Below is slated to develop inside the shopping plaza near Gratiot and 23 Mile roads.

Chesterfield Township's bargain shoppers can consider Five Below as a local option in upcoming months, according to the township.

The retailer that caters to the preteen and teen market with merchandise in the $1-5 price range is planning to open inside the Waterside Marketplace plaza. Site plans to develop an 8,000-square-foot store next to  were approved at the July 10 planning commission meeting. Next, the business will go through engineering and building permit phases, Planning Director Janice Giese said Thursday.

“It’s going to be a few months probably before they break ground," Giese said.

Five Below wanted to build inside the plaza because vacant spaces, which are about 1,200 square feet, were too small. Original plans for Waterside Marketplace called for an additional development next to Claire's, she said.
