Chesterfield Seeks Replacement Trustee

The resignation of longtime Trustee Cheryl Printz leaves an open seat on the township board.

Chesterfield Township must fill an open trustee seat, but when that will be done is up for debate.

Clerk Jan Uglis said Wednesday she would like township officials to appoint a candidate during a special meeting at noon June 22. However, a selection from a pool of candidates at that time doesn't sit well with the entire board, Uglis said.

"Now there's an uproar with some of the trustees. They think we're trying to push this," she said without disclosing which trustees are unhappy with the upcoming appointment date.

Four township residents submitted applications, but forms are still being accepted.

She said the matter should be addressed at the next regularly scheduled Board of Trustees meeting June 20 at the municipal offices.

According to the Michigan Township Association, the township can seek candidates at this time because longtime trustee Cheryl Printz . But the new trustee cannot take office until the seat is officially vacated June 30, Uglis said.

The clerk said she's hoping to expedite this process to avoid holding an election for the term expiring next year.
