Chesterfield Township Approves Expenses, Sets Public Hearing

Board members approved costs and set a hearing for next month at the regularly scheduled Monday night meeting.

Trustee Cheryl Printz' resignation shook up the meeting Monday night, but the Chesterfield Township Board of Trustees still got down to business and approved various township expenses.

Townships Association

The township will pay $5,885 in annual dues to the Michigan Townships Association. The Lansing-based nonprofit group helps township officials govern communities more efficiently.

“They do a lot of good things," Supervisor Michael Lovelock said. "They have an attorney firm that we do talk to and we don’t pay for it and we do get that benefit."

DPW Device Approved

Board members approved a request from the township’s Department of Public Works to purchase a GPS from Michigan Surveyors Supply for $9,620. The device will be beneficial to various departments, said Joe Gayeski, DPW superintendent.

“At night, during an emergency the fire department can use this to pull up the location of fire hydrants. We can locate our water mains and our valves … it can be used by other departments,” Gayeski told board members.

Heating and Cooling Contract

Trustees approved a municipal building heating and cooling maintenance contract with RW Mead & Sons Inc. at an annual cost of $30,996 for four years and an additional $7,985 to repair the existing system.

The board also approved a request from ABC Warehouse for a sidewalk sale permit with a tent measuring 20 feet by 40 feet at 51600 Gratiot from June 19-25.

Public Hearing Set

Trustees set a public hearing for 7 p.m. July 5 at the on Sugarbush Road to hear comments regarding the cost of providing police protection and the distribution of the existing special assessment tax for police protection that was approved by voters in 1996.
