Chesterfield Township to Hold Meeting on Police Budget

The meeting is scheduled for 4 p.m. May 13 at Municipal Offices on Sugarbush.

Chesterfield Township Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting May 13 to discuss police finances in Municipal Offices.

The meeting pertains to the 2014 police budget, according to the agenda.

Township officials have been weighing options for the police department in light of voter rejection of a tax hike proposal last November.

Supervisor Michael Lovelock previously said as many as 14 police employees would be laid off to combat the looming deficit. After criticism of the plan, a 90-day moratorium was placed on the staff reductions while a committee, composed of community members, explored alternatives. However, a board majority rejected the committee's proposal for limited police layoffs in mid-April.
