Meet Miss Chesterfield

The 2011 Miss Chesterfield winner is officially crowned after the pageant was canceled.

A 17-year-old student has officially been crowned Miss Chesterfield.

Jennifer Jean Gerlando appeared before the Chesterfield Township Board of Trustees Monday night for the honor by Pageant Director and Township Clerk Jan Uglis.

The pageant was scheduled to take place last Friday, but was canceled because some applicants failed to attend a required interview with judges.

“This was a rough year for us. We had a little bit of a lack of our participants, but everything went quite well,” Uglis said.

While introducing Gerlando, Uglis said, "In her free time she enjoys being on the Anchor Bay varsity dance team and the school track team. In the future, she plans on attending college and trying out for the Pistons’ dance team.”

Gerlando was accompanied by one of her two court members, Stephanie Hoppe. Hoppe, 20, attends classes at Macomb Community College and Wayne State University.

“Stephanie’s plan for the future involves obtaining her doctorate degree in biomedical science,” Uglis said during the presentation. “She plans on one day creating a facility to care for children with disabilities.”

Erin Healy, the 2010 Miss Chesterfield winner, gave a brief summary of her reign.

“My year as Miss Chesterfield has been a wonderful experience,” Healy said. “I met a lot of new people and had an amazing time.”
