New Baltimore's DPS Building to Expand

City Council voted to move ahead with the DPS building project during a regularly scheduled meeting Monday.

New Baltimore City Council voted Monday to move forward with plans to renovate the at an estimated cost of about $570,000.

Project architect James Renaud told council members during the meeting that plans include building new office space, a dedicated lunchroom, as well as renovating the locker rooms and bathrooms.

The project is still in early stages. The money to pay for the DPS building renovations would be appropriated from the DPS budget, which has a surplus of funds, Councilman Karl Rutledge said after the meeting.

“It’s so long overdue,” Mayor Pro-Tem Florence Hayman said after the vote. “This is great; it is so needed.”
