Viewfinder: Aerobics Teacher Turns 90

Longtime aerobic instructor, Lillian Lucas, is dubbed New Baltimore's Jack LaLanne.

Three decades ago, Lillian Lucas started teaching aerobics at . Today, the instructor on the brink of 90 still has the right moves.

Lucas' March 28 birthday was recognized last week by the rec center and Mayor Larry Smith. New Baltimore Assistant Parks and Recreation Director Carlos Aprea said "she is our own New Baltimore Jack LaLanne."

Her students in her Monday, Wednesday and Friday classes range in age from forties to eighties, many of whom have taken her class since the 1980s.

Although Lucas is known as a sweet, energetic lady, she doesn't tolerate interruptions when teaching—not even from the mayor himself.

"I brought in the mayor and the first thing she said was 'Wait a minute. Class is not over yet. We still have five minutes,'" Aprea said.
