Palazzolo Natural on Court

This Anchor Bay sophomore tennis player wins and loses with grace.

Haley Palazzolo is a natural athlete.

The Anchor Bay sophomore has only played tennis for 14 months, but she's already making her mark on Anchor Bay courts.

Haley is the Tars' No. 1 singles player and this year's captain. Last year, playing varsity as a freshman, she was the 2010 Rookie of the Season and advanced to the regional finals.

"Haley is a great kid and always gives 110 percent effort," Anchor Bay varsity tennis coach and her father Frank Palazzolo said. "It's tough playing as No. 1 because she is playing all seniors with a lot of experience. This is definitely a learning year for her."

So far this season, she won half her matches.

She also plays volleyball for Anchor Bay and maintains a good grade point average.  Haley played USTA juniors tennis during the winter and was the recipient of the USTA sportsmanship award.

"I think the next couple of years are going to be her best," coach Palazzolo said.  "She wins and loses with grace and always has a smile on her face. She is a well-rounded and stylish young lady.  She shows great sportsmanship and is a great teammate."
