Macomb County Quarterback to Lead Wolverines

Warren native Shane Morris will start as quarterback for the Michigan Wolverines Saturday in the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl.

Macomb County native Shane Morris will lead the Michigan Wolverines when they take the field Saturday in the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl against Kansas State.

Morris, a Warren De La Salle graduate, was named the starting quarterback Thursday by coach Brady Hoke, according to MGoBlue.com.

The freshman quarterback is starting in place of Devin Gardner, who is injured according to Hoke.

"It's been my dream since I was a little kid to start as quarterback for the University of Michigan. It's a huge bowl game. I'm excited," Morris told the website.

The Warren native graduated from De La Salle in 2013 and passed for 738 yards and 6 touchdowns before being shut down with mono during his senior season, according to MGoBlue.com. As a junior, he threw for 1,684 and 19 touchdowns.

St. Clair Shores residents may have seen Morris play during his high school years as De La Salle has played their home games at Lake Shore since 2011.
