Teams, whether they like to admit it or not, are beginning to look ahead to the state playoffs just a few weeks away.

This time of year is, for most prep sports fans, the start of a month-long stretch that includes league-title chases, state playoff runs, and, in rare cases, state championships.

So, let’s not waste any time getting this exciting time of year underway.

I have to say, however, before I get started here with the upcoming week, let’s take a moment to congratulate the softball squad on an outstanding and important week. It was important because the team earned a pair of victories at the  Macomb Area Conference Red Division.

Wins over Dakota and Marine City kept the Lady Tars within striking distance of division-leaders, Romeo High.

Great job, ladies.

Now, on to games this week.

  • Anchor Bay softball vs. Chippewa Valley, Monday, May 16, at home, 4 p.m. Another big game for the Lady Tars in the Red Division. The Big Reds are nipping on the heels of the AB, just one-half game separate the two teams in the division, and a win would separate the Lady Tars from the CV, leaving only Romeo and St. Clair ahead of the squad.
  • Anchor Bay boys and girls track regionals, Friday, May 20, at Warren Mott, 3:30 p.m. The quest for a state crown begins this Friday for both the boys and the girls team. Here’s a great chance to experience the high-drama and super-intensity of the state playoffs.
