Anchor Bay Squads Prepare for Action on Diamond

Despite spotty weather conditions, spring sports press on for local squads.

Admittedly, the weather for the opening week of the spring sports season wasn’t ideal.

In many cases, games were canceled and meets postponed.

That said, let’s keep our fingers crossed for the upcoming week, weather-wise, and give you a healthy selection of game possibilities that you can catch if Mother Nature cooperates.

If you see any game this week, please check out the softball team. They’re exciting, incredibly talented and really good.

The Lady Tars welcome L’Anse Creuse North at 4 p.m. Wednesday before hosting the Anchor Bay Invitational Saturday. The first pitch of the invitational is slated for 9 a.m.

Be sure to catch them in action at some point this season. You’ll be glad you did.

The baseball team, which by the way is off to a 4-1 start, shouldn’t be overlooked either. The Tars battle Center Line High at home Friday, starting at 4 p.m.

Also, a quick round of applause can go to Anchor Bay senior , who was named to the All-East First Team in basketball this week by the Detroit Free Press. Jones was easily the best athlete on the floor nearly every night and wrapped up the season averaging 20 points and 11 rebounds.

Despite his basketball prowess, Jones will be playing football next season for the .
