2012 Stars & Stripes Schedule: Kids Activities, Fireworks, Banana Derby and More

Macomb County's 2012 Stars & Stripes Festival starts Friday and continues through Sunday, with events for the whole family all weekend long.

The 2012 Stars & Stripes Festival returns to Mount Clemens this weekend, bringing with it more than 100 performances, a fireworks display, carnival midway and variety of other entertainments for children and adults.

The festival starts at 11 a.m. Friday, June 29, and runs through midnight Sunday, July 1, with most activities taking place near 49 Macomb Place in Mount Clemens.

All Weekend (Friday-Sunday)

Carnival Midway

  • Includes more than 25 rides for children and adults.
  • Discounted carnival wristbands are available at Big Boy locations in Mount Clemens, Clinton Township and New Baltimore, while supplies last.

Banana Derby, at Carnival Midway 

Find out what's happening in New Baltimore-Chesterfieldwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

  • Race Times: 1, 3, 5 and 7 p.m.
  • Bobo and Giligan T. Monkey, both Capuchin monkeys, ride dogs like jockeys, while the dogs race. The show features multiple races and audience participation.

BMX Stunt Show, on New Street, near Cherry 

  • Show Times: 2, 4, 6, and 8 p.m.
  • Stunt riders show off their tricks while swinging 15 to 20 feet in the air.

Classic K9 Show, at Carnival Midway

  • Show Times: 2, 4, 6, and 8 p.m.
  • Dogs and trainers travel from the USA and Canada to show their skill.

Micro Reality Stock Car Racing, at Carnival Midway

  • Availale all weekend
  • Stand at your own full-sized steering console and race a radio controlled race car.

Salute to the Military

  • This year’s Salute to the Military will feature all five branches of the United States Military. There will also be a Vietnam Memorial Wall displayed all three days of the festival. 
  • The Army will also be in Mount Clemens Friday night to induct 20 to 30 new recruits just before the fireworks display.

Friday, June 29

ABC Magic Fountain Stage, located off Macomb Place, between Pine and North Walnut

  • 2-3 p.m. – Magic Show
  • 4-4:30 p.m. – Children’s Programming
  • 5-6 p.m. – Mr. Wizard’s Science Show 
  • 6:30-7:15 p.m. – Megyn Hermez
  • 7:45-8:30 p.m. – AllenAsTim and The Dance Hall Rockers
  • 9-10 p.m. – Niecie
  • 10:30-11:30 p.m. – Luther Bad Man Keith Blues Band 

Fireworks Show

  • Show starts at 10 p.m.
  • Can be viewed from anywhere in the downtown area, although the best spots are on the riverfront.

Saturday, June 30

ABC Magic Fountain Stage

  • Noon-1 p.m. – Meet-n-Greet with Cinderella & Friends and Spiderman
  • 2-3 p.m. – Magic Show
  • 4-4:30 p.m. – Meet-n-Greet with characters from Yo Gabba Gabba
  • 5-6 p.m. – Capital City Dance Project Performance
  • 6:30-7:30 p.m. – Michelle Parish
  • 7:45-8:30 p.m. – Junction Groove
  • 9:15-10 p.m. – Dave Hamilton
  • 10:30-11:30 p.m. – Steve Mullan  

Meet Scott Reeves

  • “Dr. Steven Webber” from General Hospital
  • 2-4 p.m. on Main Street, near Macomb

Laser Spectacular

  • Show starts at 10 p.m.
  • Can be viewed anywhere on Main Street

Sunday, July 1

  • 2-4 p.m. – Meet-n-Greet with Roary from the Detroit Lions and Hooper from the Detroit Pistons

  • 6:30-7:30 p.m. – Amanda Morgan
