Packing Up The Car for Fourth of July Getaway? Find Out What to Expect on Michigan Roads

Michigan Department of Transportation is suspending a slew of construction projects across the state to help ease traffic flow for holiday commuters.

The Michigan Department of Transportation is lifting traffic restrictions on 100 of 155 projects statewide to alleviate traffic woes for Fourth of July travels.

From 3 p.m. July 3 to 6 a.m. July 5, MDOT will suspend construction wherever possible on state roads and bridges while regular construction lane restrictions will be in place on the weekends before and after the July Fourth holiday.

"We urge all motorists to drive with caution through work zones during this busy summer holiday weekend," Michigan Transportation Director Kirk T. Steudle said in a prepared statement. "Be sure to plan ahead, buckle up, and put the cell phone away while driving so everyone gets to their destination safely."
