UPDATED: MDEQ Declares Air Quality Action Days Friday, Saturday
High temperatures and humidity and 'ample sunshine' may drive up ozone levels.
UPDATE: The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) announced Friday that Friday's Air Quality Action Day has been extended through Saturday.
A sunny Friday with temperatures climbing into the upper 80s triggered an Air Quality Action Day for southeast Michigan, the MDEQ announced Thursday.
"Air quality is expected to erode as southerly winds, increasing temperatures/humidity, and ample sunshine combine to make elevated ozone formation likely," MDEQ spokesperson Jim Haywood wrote.

People and businesses should avoid these activities on Air Action days:
- Refueling vehicles or topping off when refueling
- Using gasoline-powered lawn equipment
- Using charcoal lighting fluid
Everyone is encouraged to car pool, use their bicycles or walk, and delay or combine errands when possible. Active children and adults, and persons with respiratory diseases such as asthma, should limit prolonged outdoor exertion, the MDEQ advises.
