Weather Alert: Ozone Action Day Today

Macomb County residents should limit their active time outdoors and avoid activities that cause ozone formation.

The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has issued an Air Quality Alert and declared Sunday, June 10, as an Ozone Action Day in Macomb County and 10 surrounding counties.

The National Weather Service predicts the high will break 88 degrees Sunday, with sunny skies and little wind.

The DNR offers these tips to avoid activities that cause ozone formation:

  • Try not to refuel. If you need to refuel, fill up in the evening when the weather is cooler and don’t top off the tank.
  • Refrain from using gas powered lawn equipment.
  • Do no use charcoal or lighter fluid on that grill.

Recommended activities include carpooling, biking to work, delaying or combining errands and using water-based paints.

Children and adults, especially anyone with respiratory diseases such as asthma, should limit their active time outdoors.
