Students Raise Money to Support Chesterfield Goodfellows

L'Anse Creuse High School North Key Club members presented Chesterfield Township Goodfellows with a $3,000 check Tuesday at the township Fire Station No. 2.

Instead of dwelling on their own Christmas wish lists, local students raised money to help brighten other children's holiday season.

On Tuesday, L'Anse Creuse High School North Key Club's two-week mission to fund-raise for the Chesterfield Township Goodfellows resulted in a $3,000 check presentation to the group inside Fire Station No. 2 on Jefferson Avenue.

"We went around to classrooms and we collected loose change or bills or anything they wanted to give," Kayla Williams, 18 of Chesterfield Township, said.

The highest-contributing classroom was rewarded with a coveted pizza party. One student even asked his mother to match his own donation, resulting in a $200 contribution, according to the key club co-sponsors Mark and Kathy Forbert.

The Key Club, comprising a total of 30 members, has donated to the Goodfellows for the past three years. The contributions have risen each time, from $400 to $1,500 to $3,000, and are among several other charitable initiatives the group does throughout the school year, Mark Forbert said.
