Two men were arrested Tuesday after one of them allegedly pointed a handgun at another driver during a road rage incident in Macomb Township, police said Thursday. At approximately 6:47 p.m., Macomb County Sheriff's deputies said they were called to the Hall and Hayes area after a motorist reported someone waved a handgun at him. They pulled over a 19-year-old Shelby Township man and his 20-year-old passenger from Virginia Beach, VA in the Hayes and 21 Mile area. When deputies approached the GMC Denali, they smelled marijuana. Public boat docks and a patrol boat will be celebrated during June dedications.
New Baltimore will celebrate its new public boat docks and security patrol boat during two June ceremonies at Walter and Mary Burke Park. The events, at 11 a.m. June 17 and 4 p.m. June 18, mark a multi-agency effort formed by New Baltimore with the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office, Detroit-Wayne Port Authority and Department of Homeland Security/FEMA, according to New Baltimore Police Chief Tim Wiley. The harbor, which was constructed during winter, will include 10 finger docks allowing 16 boats. The docks will be along Anchor Bay in the so-called old beach area of the park near the water plant. The U.S. Coast Guard rescued two people Sunday from a canoe adrift in Lake St. Clair.
U.S. Coast Guard personnel from Air Station Detroit and Station St. Clair Shores were dispatched to rescue two people Sunday in Lake St. Clair. The Macomb County Sheriff's Office notified the U.S. Coast Guard just after 9 a.m. Sunday that a canoe carrying two people were adrift in Lake St. Clair, according to a release. According to officials, the individuals spoke Chinese and little English. They also reported they could see land but could not reach it as they were being pushed offshore due to strong winds. Using coordinates from one of the boater's cell phone transmissions, an aircrew from Air Station Detroit and boatcrew from Station St. Clair Shores were deployed to locate the boaters. Jeremy Sherman-Gill Yancey of Chesterfield Township was arraigned last month on three counts of second-degree murder, three counts of operating while impaired causing death and reckless driving causing death.
A preliminary hearing for a Chesterfield Township man charged with second-degree murder in a deadly car crash in Highland Park was adjourned Tuesday. Jeremy Sherman-Gill Yancey will have a preliminary hearing on May 28 at 11:30 a.m., according to a statement from Maria Miller of the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office. Highland Park police said Yancey was driving drunk when his car crashed into a van and killed three people. Yancey was arraigned last month on three counts of second-degree murder, three counts of operating while impaired causing death and reckless driving causing death. Chesterfield Township Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting May 13 to discuss police finances in Municipal Offices. The meeting pertains to the 2014 police budget, according to the agenda. Township officials have been weighing options for the police department in light of voter rejection of a tax hike proposal last November. Supervisor Michael Lovelock previously said as many as 14 police employees would be laid off to combat the looming deficit. After criticism of the plan, a 90-day moratorium was placed on the staff reductions while a committee, composed of community members, explored alternatives. However, a board majority rejected the committee's proposal for limited police layoffs in mid-April.

Police identified the motorist in Tuesday's fatal crash on Interstate 94 as a 49-year-old Mount Clemens man. William Weaver was transported to McLaren Macomb Hospital in Mount Clemens after the accident, where he was pronounced dead from his injuries, according to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office. Deputies said the crash that took place around 2:16 p.m. when Weaver merged from Metro Parkway onto the freeway, crossing over all three lanes. A multi-vehicle crash that prompted the closure of eastbound Interstate 94 at Metro Parkway Tuesday afternoon claimed the life of one motorist, according to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office. Deputies are investigating the accident that took place around 2:16 p.m. Preliminary reports lead them to believe the crash took place after a male driver merged from Metro Parkway onto the freeway, crossing over all three lanes. The driver's vehicle struck another vehicle before hitting the center median barrier before another vehicle crashed into it, deputies said. Motorists were directed off the freeway onto Metro Parkway as emergency responders arrived to the personal injury accident, deputies said. No further details were immediately available.

The New Baltimore Police Department and the Bay Haven Prevention Coalition have teamed up with the Drug Enforcement Administration in providing a Year-Round Permanent Prescription Drug Take-Back Collection Center to serve the citizens and visitors of the Bay Area. The Kick-off event is planned from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 27 at the New Baltimore Police Department. The event will take place on the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration. The public is invited to stop by anytime, day or night, to drop off any unused prescription drugs. No sharps or liquids are allowed.
