Wendy Achatz says the growing local pie company had $8 million in sales last year and expects to hit $10 million this year. She also talks about the success of their new Chesterfield Township headquarters.
The Achatz Handmade Pie Company's expects to hit $10 million in sales this year, up from $8 million last year. The company's growth, including its 1 1/2-year-old headquarters in Chesterfield Township, is the spotlight of an article in this week's Metromode news magazine. Owner Wendy Achatz told Metromode: "We needed to move from our little orchard to a bigger bakehouse. We had to," she sighs. "But we're still making our pies the same way." She says the wildflower fields nearby bring a little bit of country to the more urban setting in the Chesterfield industrial park, and the location is a bike ride away from her home. A popular handmade pie business and manufacturer in the township were among 54 small and midsized companies chosen for the business development initiative.
Two Chesterfield Township companies just got a major boost from a Michigan business development initiative. Achatz Handmade Pie Company and DAGER Systems were among the 54 small and midsized companies in the state chosen for the Pure Michigan Business Connect Economic Gardening Pilot Program. In total, six companies in Macomb County were selected for the program, according to a news release from Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel. “Our six companies represent 11 percent of all that were selected,” Hackel said in the prepared statement. “We take this as a clear sign that Macomb County businesses are in good position to meet our new economy with prosperity.
