Anchor Bay, L'Anse Creuse Superintendents Among Highest Compensated in Michigan

A new database compiled by the The Mackinac Center for Public Policy shows Anchor Bay and L'Anse Creuse superintendents earning upwards of $236,881.

Editor's Note: The Mackinac Center for Public Policy acknowledged that some numbers in the superintendent database released last week may be incorrect. For instance, the center's figures show Utica Community Schools' superintendent as being the highest compensated in the state with a package of $300,789. But the Kalamazoo Gazette said that distinction might actually go to its superintendent, who has a total package worth $344,667 in 2012. MLive reported that the center's director said he’s received several phone calls from superintendents saying certain information is not correct. The superintendents of Anchor Bay and L'Anse Creuse school districts may not have the top salaries in the state, but those six-figure numbers combined with …

In a Wednesday letter to parents, Superintendent Leonard Woodside wrote in part:  "You will be able to enter into the building vestibule but before entering into the main office you will be asked to do the following: Woodside added that "our goal is to provide a safe learning environment for our students that is free of disruptions. As we implement this new procedure you will be notified of any changes. "I want to thank you for your support and patience as we …

Is L'Anse Creuse doing anything to tighten up security? When I asked them about this after Sandy Hook, I was told they are reviewing their procedures all the time, but felt at this time their system works for them. I know New Haven Elementary recently installed a buzzer system. Chippewa Valley will too be installing those systems come summertime. They have security guards at the door and visitors…   more ›

Anchor Bay Has Not Exceeded Snow Days Yet This School Year

The four snow days used this school year won't mean make up days.

With four snow days under its winter belt, Anchor Bay Schools says it won't need make-up days just yet. "We have not reached the number of days for any make up days and it’s hard to answer how many days we can miss because it’s done by contact hours, not by days," said Kathy Czarniawski, administrative assistant to Superintendent Leonard Woodside. "But my rough guess would be five days but many circumstances come into play when you go over that," she said of how many days are allowed before make-ups are needed. "The state could also, depending on the situation, make adjustments to the number of days." The district recently chose to shut doors one day last week due to concerns of icy roads. That was the fourth snow day of this school year …
