Sharing their opposing views to The Patients' Rights Repeal Act, Sander Levin and Candice Miller argued their opinions on the controversial debate through public statements this week. Levin and Miller each represent Metro Detroit communities, including several that span throughout Macomb County. The House majority voted Thursday to repeal Obamacare—formally known as the Affordable Care Act. Many expect it will not pass in the Democratic-controlled Senate.  Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Sander Levin, a Democrat, made the following statement on the House floor in opposition to the 37th ObamaCare repeal vote, his office announced Thursday: "I rise today in opposition to The Patients’ Rights Repeal Act. This vote is more than just a …

Rep. Miller Blasts TSA Decision to Allow Small Knives to be Carried on Planes

“The decision by the TSA to change security rules to allow knives onboard aircraft is just wrong," said U.S. Rep. Candice Miller.

Planning a summer vacation? Feel free to pack your golf clubs, pool cues and Swiss army knives in your carry-on luggage. As of April 25, these items and several others once banned from aircraft cabins will be allowed. Transportation Security Administration head John Pistole announced Tuesday that small pocketknives and sporting equipment banned after the Sept. 11, 2011 terrorist attacks would once again be allowed in U.S. planes, according to CNN. However, the announcement was not met with support on all fronts. Citing continued safety concerns, U.S. Rep. Candice Miller, who represents local residents in Michigan's 10th congressional district, shared her opposition to the TSA's decision in a statement Thursday. “The decision by the TSA to …

Rep. Miller Critical of President’s State of the Union Response to Spending Cuts, Voting Reform

U.S. Rep. Candice Miller voiced opposition to several actions proposed by President Barack Obama in his 2013 State of the Union Tuesday.

The need to expand domestic energy production and innovation was one of the only topics addressed by President Barack Obama during his State of the Union Tuesday to receive support from U.S. Rep. Candice Miller (R-MI).  Miller, who serves Michigan’s 10th congressional district, released a number of statements following Tuesday’s speech detailing her opposing view on issues ranging from state election rights to tax increases. Chief among her concerns was the president’s response to the ongoing “sequester” – a series of automatic, across-the-board budget cuts enacted into law in 2011 and due to take effect at the end of the month unless Congress passes a resolution to avoid it. “During tonight’s address to the nation, the President outlined …

Candice Miller Critical of Obama's Proposed Gun Laws

Congresswoman says the proposals are "an overreach of executive authority" and "inadequate in addressing the root cause" of tragedies such as Newtown.

U.S. Rep. Candice Miller, R-MI 10, criticized plans announced Wednesday by President Barack Obama indicating strict gun control measures. “The murder of innocent children in Newtown, Connecticut was a heinous act that demands action to better protect our children," Miller wrote in a statement Wednesday. "It is unfortunate that the Obama administration is focusing far too much on the method used instead of the root cause of why it happened. The vast majority of firearm owners in America are law abiding citizens simply exercising the right of self defense for themselves and their families guaranteed by the Second Amendment of our Constitution." According to the White House fact sheet, Obama’s plan includes: Miller also was critical of the …
