Chesterfield Board Holds Special Meeting for Township Budget

The Chesterfield Board of Trustees and township department heads met Nov. 28 at the municipal offices.

The Chesterfield Township Board of Trustees held a special meeting Wednesday at the municipal offices to review the township's budget for 2013. The general fund budget will rise from about $6.7 million in 2012 to $6.9 million next year. The increase was not attributed to any one particular item, according to Chesterfield Township Financial Director Vicky Bauer. Employee Travel Budget Trustee Christine Bell expressed concern over the increase in travel costs within various departments, noting that the amount given seems "very high." Supervisor Michael Lovelock, whose travel stipend increased from $700 to $1,500, said that in four years, he has not been to any conferences and feels that the conferences are a crucial for training. Seniors, Nonprofits to Benefit from Community Development Grant

Chesterfield Township Board of Trustees voted to allocate $92,000 in federal grant funding to several area nonprofits and the township’s senior center.

Chesterfield Township officials Tuesday night approved a plan to distribute more than $90,000 in federal grant funding to senior center improvements, as well as several local nonprofit groups. The township is expecting to get $92,000 from the Community Development Block Grant program, which is administered by the Michigan Strategic Fund. The program uses money from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to give grants for housing projects and economic and community development. Nearly $80,000 in grant funding will benefit those who use the township’s senior center. The township board allocated about $76,000 to replace the senior center parking lot, as well as $3,500 for senior programming at the center.            “Over the …

New Trustee Joins Chesterfield Board

Gerald (Jerry) Alexie officially began his new role as a Chesterfield Township trustee at the Monday night Board of Trustees meeting.

Gerald (Jerry) Alexie officially joined the Chesterfield Township Board of Trustees after taking the oath of office during Monday night’s board meeting. Township Clerk Jan Uglis administered the oath of office to Alexie at the beginning of the meeting, which took place Aug. 1 at the Chesterfield Township Municipal Building on Sugarbush Road. “I would just like to thank everyone for the warm welcome and hope I can prove to you that you made the right decision by placing me on the Chesterfield Township Board of Trustees,” Alexie said during the meeting. “I promise to work hard and do my part as a trustee.” Alexie will serve on the board through the November 2012 election.
