The longtime resident was sworn in Monday night at City Hall.
New Baltimore officials appointed longtime resident John Dupray to a vacant city council seat. Follow us on Facebook Dupray, an active community volunteer and former councilman, applied for the opening left by Zack Stanton. He was among seven candidates for the position that has a term expiration in more than a year. City officials said Monday night they were impressed with all the applicants' range of experience, but ultimately decided to go with Dupray because of his knowledge serving on council. The hearing will take place at 6:45 p.m. Monday, June 11, at City Hall in New Baltimore.
A public hearing regarding the property tax increase proposal is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. Monday at City Hall in New Baltimore. Under the budget proposal, taxes will rise by .273 from the 2011 millage of 14.94, meaning households with taxable values of $100,000 will have annual payments of $4,174. The hearing will be held immediately before the New Baltimore City Council considers adopting the proposed 2012-13 budget. It does not require a public vote because residents previously approved those bond rates, Treasurer …

The community group envisions the empty plot as an investment, potential park.
Bay-Rama is buying a vacant plot behind the future Biggby Coffee in New Baltimore, according to group member Larry Gingas. "We will treat this more as an investment," Gingas said of the small parcel surrounded by an alley, Blackwell Street, Alfred Street and The Town Pump. The volunteer, charitable organization has not determined a specific use for the land, but it could be a public park or potential space for the New Baltimore Farmers' Market, he said. Meanwhile, Biggby Coffee, which had projected an October completion, is now expected to be open in spring in the empty building on Green across from City Hall, New Baltimore officials said.
